FORMER GOVERNOR DAVID PATERSON AND DEMOCRATIC PARTY CHAIRMAN KEITH WRIGHT ENDORSE BRAD HOYLMAN FOR MANHATTAN BOROUGH PRESIDENT

Paterson and Wright Join a Growing List of Supporters, including Senators Jackson, Serrano, Ramos, Salazar and Kavanagh; Labor Orgs UFT, UFA, Local 2507 and IATSE Local 52; and Twelve Political Clubs

Manhattan, NY -- Today, Manhattan Borough President candidate and State Senator Brad Hoylman earned the endorsement of former New York Governor David Paterson and Chairman of the Manhattan Democratic Party Keith Wright.

Former Governor Paterson and Chairman Wright’s backing shows the Hoylman campaign’s political strength across the borough. Hoylman is the only candidate with political club and elected official support from the southernmost downtown to northernmost uptown neighborhoods and on the East and West sides. Hoylman also earned major labor support from the teachers union (UFT), firefighters (UFA), EMS workers (Local 2507), IATSE Local 52, and social workers (NASW-PACE).

As the campaign approaches the final stretch, Hoylman is in the strongest possible position. The campaign raised the maximum amount possible and earned more than $1,000,000 in matching funds; started digital paid communication before any other campaign in the race; and has the broadest coalition of grassroots activism and political support.

Senator Hoylman said: “In the final stretch, our campaign has the momentum -- as more Manhattan voters hear about our progressive reform agenda, they’re standing with us to build a more equitable, fairer New York. I’m honored to have the support of Governor Paterson and Chairman Wright in this campaign.”

Governor David Paterson said: “Manhattan needs strong, effective leadership now more than ever. I’m backing Brad Hoylman because of his track record of consistently delivering results for New Yorkers in the state senate, where he has tirelessly delivered on criminal justice reform and fought to make housing more affordable. He’ll continue to deliver for Manhattan as its borough president.”

Manhattan Democratic Party Chairman Keith Wright said: “Manhattan deserves a leader who has put in the work and who knows how to get things done - and Brad Hoylman has proven himself as one of the state senate’s leading progressive voices. I’ll be proud to cast my vote for him this June.”

Brad Hoylman has spent the last eight years fighting in the State Senate for structural change that makes a real difference in New Yorkers’ lives. He led the fights to strengthen vaccine requirements to protect children and the immunocompromised, make police reporting more transparent, end discrimination against transgender New Yorkers, ban ICE from targeting undocumented New Yorkers outside court houses, protect tenants during the COVID-19 pandemic, and get justice for victims of child sexual abuse. As Borough President, Brad will bring this same energy to tackle the toughest challenges and rebuild Manhattan for working families, small businesses and our most vulnerable communities. Brad has lived in Manhattan for three decades; he lives in the Village with his husband David and daughters, Lucy and Silvia. Brad would make history as the first LGBTQ Borough President.
